GENERAL INFORMATION

• Classes are held at Spackenkill High School (SHS), Todd Middle School (TMS), Hagan and Nassau Elementary School (HES). If a location is not listed with the class you register for, you will be notified of the location by mail.
• Continuing education classes will not be held on Monday, February 18 through Thursday, February 21 and Monday, March 24, 2008.
• Classes will not be held when school is canceled due to inclement weather.
  High School students can enroll in classes with the exception of the dance classes.
• Spackenkill School District senior citizen residents (62 & older) may register for classes at no charge provided there is a vacancy. Senior Citizens, who are not Spackenkill residents, may register for a class at the resident rate. Not applicable to Driver Education/Safety Classes.
• Confirmations will not be sent. You will only be notified if the class is canceled or filled.
• Receipts will be given out at the first class.
• No refunds will be made unless class is canceled.
• Material / book expenses are student’s responsibility.

A class is canceled when there is insufficient enrollment (usually less than 8 students).
If you are planning on registering for a class, please send in your registration at least a week before the start of the class OR if you intend to register for the class and your registration will not reach us a week before the class begins, please call 463-7800 to late register by phone.

ARTS & CRAFTS

QUILTING
Learn the steps necessary to make a quilt, pillow, or wall hanging. For beginners or those experienced in needlework. Limit 13 students.

WATERCOLOR PAINTING
Explore the medium of watercolor through still life, photographs, and prints. Color, form, space, and composition are covered. Beginners and continuing students are welcome.

PEYOTE STITCH BEADING
Discover the creative and versatile Peyote (even count) beading stitch. The possibilities of colors and designs are endless. Create your own design or choose from four different wide cuff designs (the new trend in bracelets). This bracelet needs no clasp and works up very quickly with #8 Delica tube beads and elastic beading string. The first class will include choosing a design or learning how to do your own design, bead color choices, demonstration of peyote stitch, how to read patterns and a materials list.
Limit 12 students.

WORKING WITH YARN
Learn to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, increase, and decrease well enough to feel comfortable approaching almost any project. The class will explore the various characteristics of yarn, and why it matters which type of yarn and needles you choose for a particular project. Students will also begin to read patterns and get some ideas about designing and modifying their own patterns. Even if you’re new to knitting, you should leave class with a finished project. If you already knit or crochet and/or have a project started, come along so we can work with you on it. LIMIT: 12 students

HEALTH & EXERCISE

WOMEN'S BASIC STRENGTH TRAINING
Build stronger muscles, bones and jointgs, improve cardiovascular performance and achieve overall fitness at any age. Using free weights & your own body weight, this class will focus on building strength, balance, and flexibility.
Mondays, January 28 - March 31 (no classes on March 10, 17 and 24.)

GENTLE YOGA
Breathe, relax, feel, watch, and allow . . . Kripalu Yoga is meditation in motion. Gently stretch & strengthen body, mind & spirit. The perfect yoga class for beginning students, those with back care issues, fibromyalgia, or those looking to reduce stress. Please bring yoga mat, pillow, and blanket.

YOGA BASICS
Students will learn and practice yoga postures, breathing, meditation, and relaxation. This is a gentle, caring, and non-goal oriented style of Ha-tha Yoga. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring a mat to class. This class is for beginner students and those with some Yoga experience.

BALLROOM/SWING DANCE 1
Learn Swing, Fox Trot, Waltz and Polka basics. No experience necessary - two left feet are OK!

DANCING LIKE THE STARS
Learn pre-choreographed Rumba & Cha Cha figures like those performed on the TV show.
Students need some dance experience.

DRIVER SAFETY

NEW YORK STATE 5 HOUR PRELICENSING
This five hour class is for beginner drivers with a valid learners permit and for other drivers who need to obtain a NYS Drivers License. Bring Learners Permit to class. Fee: $20.
