Hagan Principal's Message

November 26, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I hope this letter finds all of you doing well. December will soon be upon us, and so too will consistently cold weather and eventually snow. As you know, recess is very important to children; it provides a break from the regular school routine and a chance to get some fresh air and exercise.  All students are expected to go outside for recess and therefore need to be prepared for the winter weather.  For outdoor recess play during the winter months, we recommend the following articles of clothing:

·         warm winter coat

·         mittens or gloves

·         hat

·         scarf

·         boots/snow pants if your child would like to play in the snow

In the past, students have been able to borrow coats and hats from the nurse’s office, but we are no longer offering this opportunity to students.  Unfortunately, if your child is not properly dressed for the winter weather, he/she will not be able to participate in recess.  Please make sure your child has the appropriate attire so that she/he can go outside for recess during these cold winter months.

Please know that the decision to go out for recess is made daily by 11:15 AM at Hagan and is based on temperature, precipitation, wind chill, and the condition of playing surfaces. If the wind chill is 20 degrees or above, the children will likely have outdoor recess. We will refer to www.weather.com for our weather information.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us to keep your children safe and comfortable.  Please call if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

John C. Farrell

Principal
