The Mission of the School Food Service Department is to provide students with a variety of appealing and nutritious meals in a respectful environment.
Spackenkill School District’s Food Service Department is excited to provide parents with NutriKids, a convenient, easy, and secure online prepayment service to deposit money into your child’s school meal account at any time. This service also provides parents with the ability to view each child’s account balance through a website called My School Bucks . By having money in each child’s account prior to entering the cafeteria, we find the lunch lines move along much faster so your child has more time to eat and be with friends.
Also, parents will have the ability to print out a copy of each child’s eating history report. This history report will show you all dates and times that your child has purchased a breakfast and/or lunch within the past 30 days.
To access these services:
Go to www.myschoolbucks.com. From this site you will create your account and add money to your child’s school meal account. All you need is your child’s name, student ID number, school and ZIP code.

Things to know:
- If you have more than one child in the District you can handle all online prepayments from the same online account.
- With mySchoolBucks you can make a payment using your Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit card or debit card. You may also make payment using an e-check payment directly from your bank account.In order to use the online prepayment service, a small convenience fee for each transaction will be assessed to cover the bank fees. The convenience fee is $1.95 per deposit transaction. Parents placing money into multiple meal accounts will only be assessed the $1.95 fee once per deposit transaction. Spackenkill School District does not receive the fee and does not profit from the use of this site.

We are very excited to offer these new services, in direct alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan/Safe and Healthy Environments priority, and are confident this new system will benefit you, your child and our District. However, if you choose not to take advantage of the online prepayment service you may continue to make advance payments via check, which should be made payable to the Spackenkill School Lunch Fund. Please write your child’s full name on the check.
Many changes will occur in our school cafeteria during the 2012-2013 school year. The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and the United States Department of Agriculture are requiring schools to implement revised nutrition standards in the National School Lunch Program. The most obvious differences will be seen in portion sizes, meal components, and the variety of food items that can be part of a lunch meal. These changes are a result of the rising rate of childhood overweight and obesity, health complications such as diabetes, and the increased costs to treat those complications.
The objectives are to promote healthy foods in their natural form, identify appropriate portion sizes, and educate our children to make positive dietary choices. The new program requirements will ensure exposure to a greater variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition, whole grains, meats, and meat alternatives will reflect the 2010 Guidelines for Americans that specify portion sizes based on grade levels (grades K-5, 6-8, 9-12). Over consumption and distorted portion sizes will be greatly reduced with the revised nutrition standards. Low fat and fat free milk varieties will be the only milk choices available.
Although these changes in our schools may result in higher prices in the future to accommodate the purchase of more nutritious options, our children will truly benefit in the end. The obesity epidemic, as well as the increase prevalence of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other health complications, affects an increasing proportion of our nation’s youth. By educating our children on how to make smart and balanced food selections, we will create a positive message for a longer and healthier tomorrow.
The Food and Nutrition Department is working to create healthier, tastier, and convenient meals for students. We are excited about the new changes to school meals and look forward to the success of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. On the elementary level , we will continue to work with and support parents efforts to introduce healthy eating habits at an early age by offering only a variety of choices of the standard school lunch regulated meal pattern and a small variety of Choose Sensibly snacks. On the secondary level, in addition to the regulated meal pattern, we will continue to offer our student’s favorite ala carte specials. Ala Carte specials are sold separate from school meals and are not part of the school meals program. Please take a moment to look at the breakfast and lunch menu on our menu links for your child’s individual school.
If your child brings a lunch from home please remember to pack supplies (fork, spoon, straw, napkin, etc)

For your convenience and to avoid an upsetting situation if your child arrives at school without lunch money, we encourage prepaying through NUTRIKIDS for lunch and breakfast. We have a policy of no charging and ask for your cooperation by encouraging you to utilize the pre-pay system. Arrangements have been made to provide an alternate lunch (so no child will go hungry) if this situation occurs. Any child who does not have lunch money will be offered a peanut butter & jelly sandwich on wheat bread and an apple or orange juice. Thank you for your support.
