Response to Intervention

Rti stands for response to intervention and is a way to provide specific strategies to meet the needs of students so that they might be successful.  There are three different tiers or levels of assistance.

Tier 1 strategies are those that they classroom teacher might easily provide and they would include things like an incline board for writing, check-ins with the teacher, daily behavior charts, and breaking down assignments into small and manageable parts.

Tier 2 strategies are those such as AIS reading or math, Speech Improvement, social groups, and ESL services.  Tier 2 services are delivered by a specialist who is not the regular classroom teacher.  They typically are given in small groups.

The next level of intensity is Tier 3.  This is the most intensive level of support with greater frequency and smaller groups.

Our RTI team meets regularly on students to establish goals and monitor progress.  Data is collected and these plans are captured on the software RTIm and progress reports are generated quarterly.  As progress is made by students, changes are inputted that reflect that growth.  Each school in the Spackenkill School District has an RTI team; the facilitator of Nassau's team is Mrs. Shaffer.  Please feel free to contact her, or the Principal, Mrs. Craft-Reiss, if you have any questions or concerns.
