Chris Weisner and Meg Banks

Meg Banks, 6th grade teacher at Todd Middle School, and Chris Weisner, 4th grade teacher at Hagan Elementary, were honored with Life Membership inthe New York State PTA Tuesday, February 26th at Hagan Elementary School.

Each year, the PTA honors certain individuals in recognition of their contributions to the welfare of children, both in the school and the community.

The Spackenkill District PTA congratulates Meg and Chris on receiving this award.

DISTRICT
All PTA members are reminded of the budget vote on May 20 at the High School. At 7:30 on that evening we will hold our District PTA meeting at the High School. Dot Kellogg is chairperson of the nominating committee for PTA. If you are interested in becoming involved at the district level please contact Dot at 473-8081.

HIGH SCHOOL
Our last meeting of the year will be Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Rm.103. We will be discussing the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, May 9. We are asking for donations of desserts (brought to the front office on May 9th) or money (dropped into PTA box in front office anytime). We are also looking for volunteers to set up (9 to 10 a.m.), serve (10:15 to 1:15 p.m.), and clean up (1:30 to 2 p.m.). If you can help or have questions, call Sarah Peacock (462-7912), Julie Torres (462-0727), or Ann Shershin (483-0899). The position of chairperson, treasurer, and secretary of the High School PTA are still available for next year. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please call Ann Shershin at 483-0899.

TODD
The Todd PTA, in cooperation with the Site-Based Team, will sponsor a Todd Community Spaghetti Dinner on May 21st. The dinner will have two seatings, 5:30 and 7:00PM, in the Todd Dining Hall. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 13 with a $22.00 family cap, and are being sold in advance. If you did not receive a flyer in your child’s report card, please contact Bonnie Hoeft at 462-1380 or Mary Gugumuck at 462-8917.
We will be recognizing our teachers during the week of May 5-9 with many special Teacher Appreciation Week events. These events will range from car washes to gift bags and will culminate in a week-ending pizza party. A special thanks to all the Todd families who have volunteered with goodies, money and time to make this event extra special!!

Todd Middle School welcomes local author Da Chen for Author’s Day on May 1 and 2. Grade level presentations will occur on May 1 with smaller Memoir Writing Workshops being presented on May 2.

We continue to have several vacancies for next year. Please consider becoming involved in your child’s school and volunteering as secretary or treasurer. These positions only require a couple of hours of time each month.

NASSAU
Please join us for our PTA Pancake Breakfast scheduled for Sunday, May4. There are two seatings, one at 9:30 and one at 11:15. There will be music, face painting and more so plan on attending! All proceeds support field trips
and activities for Nassau students. Hope to see you there!

April showers bring May flowers to our Plant Sale on May 7 and 8. There will be many plants for sale as well as carnations. Just in time for Mother’s
Day! Thanks to Karen Keith for organizing this event.

Nassau Kindergarten screening will be May 6 through the 8. Welcome to all our new families!

Look out for times and dates for our next Friendly’s Night! Join us for ice cream after the game or practice. Any questions, contact Joanne Van Ness.

Teacher appreciation is in full swing this month so don’t forget to thank your teacher for all they do!

Our next PTA meeting is Tuesday, May 13. There are a few positions still open to chair activities for next year and we are looking for anyone who would like to help.

We are in need for volunteers to run Family Fun Day scheduled for next month. If you are interested or can help in any way, please contact Tara Speranza at 463-9005. Any help or time is greatly appreciated!

HAGAN
For an entire week, from May 5 to May 9, we will be honoring our wonderful teachers at Hagan! Each day there will be something new for them and
the students will get to present their own classroom gift too! If you’d like to help out in any way, please contact one of the Teacher Appreciation co-chairs: Amy James, 463-2202, or Erin Ruppert 463-7105.

Hagan will be all smiles on May 13th for Spring Picture Day! If you’d like to help out, please contact Cathy Porco at 454-4095.

Join us for Hagan’s PTA meeting on Monday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Teachers’ Room. There are two openings for parent representatives on the Site Based Management Team and we will be electing them that night so that the new representatives can attend the last meeting in June. For more information on the Site Based Team, contact Dot Kellogg at 473-8081. If you would like to get more involved in PTA next year, this is a good time to learn about the committees and committee openings!

If your son or daughter ever came home without their jacket, gloves, boots, or any other personal or clothing item, now is the time to check the Lost & Found box in the lobby. Very soon those items will be cleared out, and we’ll once again be able to see the bottom of the box!

The Hagan PTA was treated to a technology demonstration presented by several students representing various grade levels from the Hagan School. The students showed the parents several computer applications, such as SmartNotebook and PowerPoint, to highlight some of the vast uses of Smartboards in the elementary school. While students showed off their knowledge of their specific subject matter and their keen technology prowess, the teachers discussed that effective technology integration clearly improves student achievement.
