Winter Sports Sign-ups
Dear Prospective Winter Athlete:
Below are the steps required in order to participate in Winter Sports:
- Sign up (by sport) the week of October 5th. You may sign up during your lunch period on October 5th or in the Athletic Office after that date. Be sure that you neatly add your name to the fall sport sign-up sheet.
- Obtain an Athletic Participation Form. Forms are available in the Athletic Office after October 5th or on the Spackenkillathletics.com website. Have your parent/guardian completely fill out and sign both sides of the required form. Return this form to the school nurse before October 16th to schedule a physical with the school physician. Physicals at the High School will be given at the end of October.
- The first time your child participates in a sport at the High School, they must be examined by the school physician. There is no cost for this physical exam. For subsequent seasons, students can use their personal physician’s physical as long as it clearly states that they are cleared for athletic participation. All physicals are valid for a 12-month period.
- If a first time participant misses sign-ups or fails to turn in an athletic participation form, parents will have to take the student to the school physician's office and pay any associated cost thereof. Returning athletes with physical forms completed by their primary care provider should return them to their school nurse. This form must indicate they are cleared for athletic participation. If no physical form is received, the student will be examined by the school physician.
- After the Health Office has medically cleared your child, he/she will be added to the team roster and eligible to participate in athletics in August. NO ATHLETE WILL BE PERMITTED TO ATTEND TRY-OUTS OR PRACTICES WITHOUT HEALTH OFFICE CLEARANCE.
- Please be aware of the academic eligibility policy for High School activities. This policy is strictly enforced. This information is in the student-parent athletic handbook and on the Spackenkillathletics.com website.
- Winter sports tryouts begin on November 9th for all high school sports. Signing up for a winter sport ahead of time is very important in order for coaches to be able to notify you as to the date and location of tryouts for your particular sport.
