SHS Chemistry Students Visit Todd

John Latino's AP Chemistry students have been visiting Elyse Joy's 7th Grade Earth Science class.  The students are conducting a series of cool scientific demos. "The high school students learn quite a bit from the experience of working with these young people," says Mr. Latino. Check out the movies below:

ACSL Championship Competition

Congratulations to Andrew Mwakibinga, Eric Song, Matthew Wu, and advisor Maureen Black,  who placed 9th in the nation and 12th internationally at the American Computer Science League Championship held in Denver, Colorado, on May 24th.  Matthew Wu and Eric Song also received awards as individual high scorers. 

Support the Music Boosters

When you visit Table Talk Diner on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie on Spackenkill spring concert evenings and show them the attached flyer, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of its proceeds to the Music Boosters of Spackenkill. Come have dinner or a post-concert dessert and coffee celebration on May 14, 15, 19, 21, and 29.

8th Annual Science Symposium

On Tuesday, May 27,  join us for the Science Research Symposium, which will take place at 6:30 pm at the high school. Guest speaker Ian Matts, an MIT Energy Fellow and Spackenkill graduate, will make a presentation on his battery research. Senior students will present Powerpoints on their original research. Eleanor Pupko Achieves Master Teacher Status

Spackenkill High School math teacher Eleanor Pupko (pictured above with principal Steve Malkischer) has been named a New York State Master Teacher. Governor Cuomo recently announced the selection of 215 educators from all ten regions of the state. These educators join the 104 Master Teachers announced in October 2013, bringing the total number of Master Teachers in New York to 319.The New York State Master Teacher Program seeks to identify, reward, and support  professional mentors and content experts. By engaging directly with those teaching math and science in grades 6–12 today, New York State can ensure that students will be college and career ready for the jobs of tomorrow.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2014

We are proud to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian for Spackenkill High School’s Class of 2014.  Valedictorian Brian Zeoli will be attending the M&T Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania studying business and computer science.  Salutatorian Arya Mekkat will be attending Tufts University as a pre-med student.  Congratulations to both Brian and Arya.
