Winter Sports Sign-ups

Dear Seventh and Eighth Grade Parent/Guardian:

The following sports will be offered at the Todd Middle School this winter:

Girls Basketball - Modified

Boys Basketball - Modified

Cheerleading - Modified

Indoor Track – Varsity only

Before your son/daughter can participate in one of these programs, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Sign-up (by sport) and receive an Athletic Participation Form on October 19th in the cafeteria during all lunch periods.  After October 19th students can sign-up and pick up an Athletic Participation Form in the school nurse’s office or online at Spackenkillathletics.com.

  1. Obtain an Athletic Participation Form.  Forms are available in the nurse’s office after October 19th or on the Spackenkillathletics.com website.  Have your parent/guardian completely fill out and sign both sides of the required form.  Return this form to the school nurse before October 28th to schedule a physical with the school physician.  Physicals will be given at the school at the end of October.

  1. The first time your child participates in a sport at the Todd Middle School, they must be examined by the school physician.  There is no cost for this physical exam.  For subsequent seasons, students can use their family physician’s physical as long as it clearly states that they are cleared for athletic participation.  All physicals are valid for a 12-month period.

  1. If a first time participant misses sign-ups or fails to turn in an athletic participation form, parents will have to take the student to the school physician's office and pay any associated cost thereof.  Returning athletes with physical forms completed by their primary care provider should return them to their school nurse.  This form must indicate they are cleared for athletic participation.  If no physical form is received, the student will be examined by the school physician.

  1. After the Health Office has medically cleared your child, he/she will be added to the team roster and eligible to participate in athletics in November.   NO ATHLETE WILL BE PERMITTED TO ATTEND TRY-OUTS OR PRACTICES WITHOUT HEALTH OFFICE CLEARANCE.

  1. Modified winter sports start November 16th, so it is important that your child be cleared in time to participate.

  1. Students with exceptional athletic ability and recommended by a varsity coach may be allowed to try out for JV and Varsity teams. The student must pass NYS selection classification requirements before trying out.

If you have any questions please call the Athletic Office at 845-463-7824.
