SIGN-UPS

The coaches, or the athletic director, will come to Todd during lunch periods for sign-ups. Students place their names on the sheet for the desired sport and are given an Athletic Participation Form that must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian. This form must be returned to the nurse before a school sports physical can be scheduled. If a student misses sign-ups, all forms are available in the nurses’ office.

ELIGIBILITY

Students must be in good academic standing and have no disciplinary infractions to be in good standing on a sports team.

SPORTS PHYSICALS

Sports physicals are required in order to join a school sports team and are accepted only if given by our school physician. For fall sports, physicals are scheduled in May/June, for winter sports, physicals are scheduled in November and for spring sports, physicals are scheduled for February. There is no cost to parents for a physical given in school, which is valid for a period of 12 continuous months. However, if students do not sign up and turn in the parent permission forms in a timely manner parents may have to be responsible for the cost of the physical.

*Students in Grades 7 & 8 are eligible to join Spackenkill’s organized sports teams. Students with exceptional athletic ability may be allowed to try out for JV and Varsity teams. The student must pass selection/classification, maturation and physical fitness tests before trying out.

*By state law, students in Grade 6 are eligible for intramurals only
which are run during lunch times and after school.

INTRAMURALS

Intramurals are run during lunch times and after school from 2:30 – 3:00. Some of the games/sports that are played include flag football, basketball, whiffleball, volleyball, bowling, ultimate Frisbee, as well as other games depending on the season and the weather. To be involved in intramurals, see your P.E. teacher.

A comprehensive athletic handbook is available by contacting the athletic office.
