Dear Spackenkill Community,

December is a busy and festive month at school and at home. Each year the Board of Education receives an educational audit report from our principals. This Tuesday, December 11th, our elementary principals will report on last year’s student testing performance results. If you are interested in reviewing the information, it is posted on BoardDocs. The secondary principals will report on January 8th.

One last reminder: The Dutchess BOCES Capital Project Vote will occur on Tuesday, December 11th, from 12 – 8 pm in the high school lobby. Parking is available adjacent to the auditorium / gym entrance.

Last night was Todd’s 7th and 8th Grade Winter Concert, and music department performances were as always well done! Next week is the 6th Grade Concert. Hagan also will perform, and the rumor is that a special guest will be in attendance!

My best,

Mark Villanti

Todd Student Gov't Serves Community

Todd Student Government hosted its annual Senior Citizen Breakfast this week. There was a very large turnout from the community, who enjoyed breakfast and entertainment by the Todd Jazz Band and individual performers, including comedians and a magic act. Thank you to all participants and advisor Norma Vazquez.

Midnight Madness

The Spackenkill Basketball Club held its 3rd annual Midnight Madness on November 29th. The fun-filled evening  (which began at 6:30 pm, not actually midnight!) kicked off the season with plenty of spirit. The community got to meet the teams, participate in contests, and win prizes. All proceeds supported the Boys and Girls Basketball Program.

Spotlight on Todd Students

Mariamma DaboWorking with the National Park Service, seventh grader Mariama Dabo, pictured at left with Principal Dan Doherty, has created her second Junior Ranger Program book, featuring the Vanderbilt National Historic Site. Her first book , pubilshed in 2016, was about the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site, including Val-Kill. Mariama and her classmates have been invited to the Vanderbilt site for a tour. We'll update readers in coming weeks. Congratulations on this accomplishment!

Technology in Action

Mrs. Strapec’s second grade class recently worked with technology integration teacher Mrs. Byrne to learn how to cut and paste while working in Google Classroom. For Thanksgiving, the students enjoyed assembling a turkey and then typing what they were thankful for.  Mrs. Strapec and her class hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

Positive Moves

Fifth grade students presented a high-energy dance performance at an assembly on Friday. It was the culmination of the New York Dance Residency program taught by Edwin Fion. The program focuses on teamwork and emphasizes the power of individual expression. "We can make our livers better by celebrating one another," said Mr. Fion. Thank you to the Elementary PTA for bring this program to Hagan!
