A Letter to the Spackenkill Community

A Message from the
Spackenkill School District

November 8, 2019

Dear Spackenkill Community,

We learned today that Governor Cuomo has recognized the merits of our position and signed our amnesty bill, relieving Spackenkill of any and all final cost report penalties. We are grateful for the Governor’s signature supporting our bill, which was approved unanimously by the Senate and Assembly.

We want to thank Senator Serino, Assemblymember Barrett, and all their legislative staff, as well as the New York State School Boards Association. Thank you also to our teachers, administrators, support staff, and community members who wrote to the Governor on our behalf. We are grateful to the PTA/PTSA for their support. We are indebted to our School Board, who led the fight for justice and fairness for Spackenkill, and to the Lower Hudson Education Coalition, which advocated on our behalf with the Governor's office.

A special thanks to the Honorable Senator Saland for being our tireless advocate. We need to take a moment of reflection and be grateful for what an outstanding school district we continue to aspire to become. With the passing of this bill, we will continue to have the financial resources to maintain our standards of excellence. I am proud to be part of the Spackenkill community and thankful for all of you who have been a part of this monumental effort. This is a special day.

Sincerely,
Mark Villanti
